Childhood Memories of Ramen

Pingping

Have you ever heard of “ramen”?

Ramen was my first introduction to Japanese food.

Ramen is a Japanese food and it’s also a noodle. Ramen is a Japanese adaptation of Chinese wheat noodles. One theory says that ramen was first introduced to Japan during the 1660s by the Chinese neo-Confucian scholar Zhu Shunsui. It's original flavor is created with miso and soy sauce, however, nowadays there are more modern variations, including tomyam, shabu or spicy. However, the original flavor is always my favorite.

The reason that I like ramen is because it is hot and has a broth that is very delicious at the end. Moreover, I don’t prefer to eat rice, so noodles are a better choice for me. I think the first time I ate ramen was around 14 years ago, when I was just 4 years old. I went to a little gym class, a special class to improve physical skills for kids, and in that building there is one ramen restaurant named Hachiban Ramen. So, every time after I finished my class, I went to eat this ramen with my family. In that period of time, I think I went to that restaurant once a week, sometimes even twice a week. It was too much. And each time I actually ordered the same ramen, which is Shashumen and Yasai. Up until now, I still order the same and still love this restaurant.

In my perspective, Ramen is the symbol of Japanese food even though it is adapted from Chinese, when people think about Japanese food ramen will be the first category that comes up in my mind. The best ramen ever was when I went to Japan and I had a chance to try an original ramen there. It was extremely good and I can receive an original feeling from its soup and noodles.

After I ate Hachiban Ramen, I also tried to discover a new ramen restaurant and test the different flavor from other recipes. These days, I still eat Hachiban ramen and order the same. And, just as usual, the taste is super delicious.
